ScummVM version 1.0.0 posted by brakken
11-17-2009

The ScummVM Team have released a new version of their game interpreting engine for various platforms. ScummVM allows you to play a plethora of oldschool point and click adventure games on the consoles it's been released on. Games it supports - some examples are the Indian Jones series from Lucas Arts. It also supports a ton of more games (check out their website).

Quote:
It was just 3.5 months ago when we started to prepare for this release, and now finally the day has come.

Ladies and gentlemen, please greet the one and only ScummVM 1.0.0 "Shiny Logo!" The long awaited, the most anticipated, the best... whatever.

We worked very hard on stability in this release, and in addition to all that goodness available since our 1.0.0rc1, we added a new set of ports for Motorola Linux-based phones (those on MotoEZX and MotoMAGX platforms) and fixed just a few hundred bugs.
For a rundown on what's new check out the PS2 post here.

PSPlay v1.0 Released posted by brakken
11-15-2009

Amrcidiot
has released an interactive music player for the Sony PSP which allows you to play the the acoustic, electric, and bass guitar. As well the drums and keyboard. It's not as simple as that as you have to setup a note list (can we all remember Mario Paint), but if you're good you can come up with some kick ass beats.

Quote:
Dear user,

Thank you for downloading PSPlay Version 1.0
I'm happy to announce that PSPlay is approaching its 2nd birthday.

The game now includes:
Acoustic Guitar
Electric Guitar
Bass Guitar
Drums (improved)
Keyboard (new)

All the graphics for this game have been improved and there are now indicators so you can tell which note you're playing.

How to install:

PSP Phat:
Place the "psplay" folder in the "GAME" folder if you have 3.xx/4.xx/5.xx kernel enabled

PSP Slim:
Place the "psplay" folder in the "GAME" folder

New:
-Game now loads on both Slim and Phat, no need to download a seperate file for each system
-Keyboard
-Drum sounds
-Graphics (menus, backgrounds, etc)
-Indicator (points to the note you're playing)
-For some reason, that last couple releases included a lot of image files that were never used, those have been deleted.

To Do:
-Make an add-on feature (so users only need to download an add-on pack instead of the actual application each time)
-Re-record guitar instruments
-Take new pictures of instruments
-Fix bugs
-Add another octave in keyboard and eventually in guitars

Known Bugs:
-Drum beat cuts off after a little bit of playing along
-Loading takes quite a while

The controls have stayed the same for the previous instruments, but I'll post them anyway for new users.

Guitars:
Cross: E
Square: F
Triangle: G
Circle: A
Down: B
Left: C
Up: D
Right: E
R-Trigger: Flat Chords
L-Trigger: Drum Beat
Start: Menu
Select: Screenshot

Drums:
Cross: Bass
Square: Snare
Triangle: Tom 1
Circle: Tom 2
Down: Bass
Left: Snare
Up: Tom 1
Right: Tom 2
R-Trigger: Hi-hat
L-Trigger: Crash Cymbal
Start: Menu
Select: Screenshot

Keyboard:
Cross: C
Square: D
Triangle: E
Circle: F
Down: G
Left: A
Up: B
Right: C
R-Trigger: Flat Notes
L-Trigger: Drum Beat
Start: Menu
Select: Screenshot

Legal:
The new drum sounds and keyboard sounds come from Apple Garageband.
I've made the move to an Apple MacBook Pro, allowing me access to new audio, hence the wonderful sounding drums and keyboard.
PSPlay does not use the actual file used in garageband, but a recording of them. All rights to these sounds go to Apple.

This game uses LUA Player for the PSP, the eboot which loads these scripts has simply been edited to show the PSPlay logo and picture so it's easier for users to find.

That being said, this game is open source, meaning anybody can change/manipulate the code to their liking. I do ask that you do not re-release without credit to myself of asking my permission, although I cannot control your actions.

Although influenced by many, this game has been created, revised, designed, birthed, payed, showered, driven, fed, eaten, etc by amrcidiot

Thanks:
There are many people/things I'd like to thank for making this possible.
Of course, Dark_Alex for giving me a platform to program on, and changing my life.
The makers of Audacity for making audio-editing simple.
The makers of GIMP for an alternative to Photoshop.
Apple for making Garageband.
Sir_Axxewraith for helping with beta on the PSP Slim.
Finally, Xsjado7 for making VDrum, the game that inspired my ideas and the overall feel of the game.

PSPedict V0.3 (Japanese Dictionary) Released posted by brakken
11-15-2009

PixelDragon has released a new version of his Japanese Dictionary which will convert a number of words (The latest update now includes three extra edict files -- Computer Terms with 10,547 entries, Legal Terms with 3,232 entries and Life Sciences with 31,382 entries) to English. This new version includes ...

Quote:
Hi Everyone

Back again with the latest update to PSPedict, now at V0.3.

The biggest change is the inclusion of Tanaka Corpus example sentences. There are example sentences for approximately 20,500 unique words.

As the Tanaka Corpus is considered a work in progress, included with the download is a Windows application called "EdictUpdate" which can be used to update the example sentences in the EDICT files. Further instructions on how to use this tool can be found by clicking the "About" button when the application is open. The EDICT files in the download have already been updated. I have only tested the application on Vista.

A quick disclaimer regarding the example sentences. Please do not expect each sentence to be a perfect match. Sometimes the sense of the word is not correct, and other times the Japanese or English sentence may contian errors. They should only be used as a rough guide or for context.
What's New?

- Included support for Tanaka Corpus example sentences.
- Fixed a bug that cut some English description strings short.
- The last English search string will be the default text in the
On Screen Keyboard(OSK). I was unable to impliment this for
Japanese text. If anyone has luck with this, I'd appreciate an
e-mail/post about how to impliment this.
- Included an application file "Edict Update". This can be used
by the user to update Edict files if the Tanaka Corpus examples
are updated.

*Side Note - Doesn't that beat the hell of out DCEMU's copy & paste news post about the same topic :)

PSPEText v1.0 Released posted by brakken
11-15-2009

QBRADQ has released a simple text reader for the Sony PSP. Wait? Doesn't the Sony PSP have sufficient text readers? Well, this one is a plug-in that you can use during your games to load up a text file and read it. I would assume it would be useful for people who can't play games and need a FAQ to get through them. At any rate, here are the developer's notes.

Quote:
SPEText is a kernel-mode plugin that allows you to pause any PSP game at any time and read text files stored on the memory stick. This is useful for reading FAQs from sites like www.gamefaqs.com while playing your favorite PSP games.

This text reader supports both a 60-column display and an 80-column display, which can be switched between at runtime. The 80-column display is a little less readable, but a must-have for reading FAQ files.

What's New?

Quote:
This release improves file-based MP3 playback capability and contains some GUI enhancements. The package is a 'bare eboot' .zip, containing only the EBOOT.PBP (replace the one in our current 0.5.4 install or a previous 0.5.5 test build with it to add these features).

MP3 support adds seeking support, time display, wider compatibility with varied stream formats, support for ID3 V2 tags.
Made forms (includes AMS), lists (includes wifi selector) and menus 'loop' top to bottom/bottom to top when scrolling past the end; much of this is merged MR4 code.

Added Unicode pages 21-26, 30-33, f9-fa, fe-ff to built-in font from old CJK-ordered tables--lost in previous builds due to various changes--adds Chinese punctuation, CJK extensions, miscellaneous symbols.

PSP homebrew: Wagic The Homebrew v0.9.3 - Star Wars MOD Released posted by brakken
11-12-2009

A small group of team members have been able to use Wagic's plug-in system to create their own custom version of the highly popular card collecting game for the Sony PSP.

Quote:
This starwars MOD is unofficial for now, but depending on its success, it might become officially supported (this means improvements and bug fixes). So if you download this and enjoy it, please say it!

This mod contains 4 sets of cards. 3 of these sets were created by Christopher French, aka Alacar Leoricar. The thread were he first released these sets can be found on MTGSalvation, I want to personally thank him for his enthusiasm about this small project, and I hope we’ll have opportunities to port more of his awesome sets to Wagic.

The fourth set was created by DarthGhadar and posted on our

forums
The funny EBOOT picture was made by kanjiroushi

The mod initial design and theme is by Abrasax

A small team was able to create this mod in a matter of days with the latest Wagic version… I hope this will lead to More mods like this one. If you’re a fan of anime, or want to create your own graphics and universe, go for it! You can already check out some cool themes and custom sets on the forum.

The package includes Wagic 0.9.3, which is basically Wagic 0.9.1 with a couple bug fixes. The purple screen issue is, unfortunately, still here, but remember there are ways to get rid of it most of the time

PSPMancala v1.1.0 Released posted by brakken
11-07-2009

ZX-81
has just released a new port of Mancala for the Sony PSP.

Quote:
Mancala is a board game familly, originated in East Africa. The word "Mancala" came from arabic word "naqalah" that means literaly "To move". Dingux-Mancala is the "Awari" variant, and even if the rule of this game is simple, the complexity can be compared to chess Game.

The AI is based on the source code of H. Huseby & G.T. Lines, for their implementation of the classical Minimax algorithm.

The touch screen is supported, and there is a two players mode.

Awari is played on a board where each player owns 6 pits. In the initial position, all pits are filled with four stones, thus the initial position has 48 stones.

The player to move chooses one of its own, nonempty pits and removes all stones from the pit. The player then sows the stones, counterclockwise, over the remaining pits.

If the last stone is sown into an enemy pit that contains 2 or 3 stones after sowing, the stones are captured.

In this case, if the second last pit is also an enemy pit that contains 2 or 3 stones, they are captured as well, and this process is repeated clockwise, until the own pit, or an enemy pit containing less than 2 or more than 3 stones is reached.

The player who captures most stones, wins the game. The game end when a player cannot move, however, to avoid such a situation early in the game, it is not allowed to do a move that leaves the opponent without countermove, unless all moves eradicate the opponent.
What's New?

- Bug fix in AI (now it is much stronger !)
- New graphics and eboot icons
- Add EBOOT music

PSPKVM v0.5.5 Test 2 Released posted by brakken
11-05-2009

The PSPKVM Team have released a new version of their Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME) CLDC/MIDP Emulator for the Sony PSP. Using this emulator you can enjoy many, many games on your Sony PSP. Mind you most of these games are totally free! There is currently no firmware v1.5 version, but who still uses it anyway?

What's New?

This release adds file-based MP3 playback capability to the JSR 135 Multimedia API, meaning J2ME media players like GlassPlayer will be able to play local MP3 files, and games and other apps using MP3s for sound should work. The package is a ´bare eboot´ .zip, containing only the EBOOT.PBP (replace the one in our current 0.5.4 install or a previous 0.5.5 test build with it to add this feature). The download is below.

Changes include:

* Initial MP3 (JSR 135 Multimedia API) implementation added. This is a MediaEngine (hardware-based) implementation--very fast, and easy on your processor. It is for file-based playback only as of this release (no streaming from the net as yet), and has the following known limitations: there are no shuttle controls or volume control, metadata reading is not yet supported, and backgrounded playback, while functional, will break your network connection.

* Added a ´mark all contents´ command to AMS folders
